Welcome to the first entry on my new WordPress blog. I will be posting information on art, studio events, new projects, interesting profiles and articles and workshops.
On November 3 & 10 (2013), I had a great time instructing a workshop at The Guelph School of Art in Guelph, Ontario. The studio is located on the third floor at 125 Wyndham Street North, in downtown Guelph and is flooded with natural light, very comfortable and well equipped. The Botanical Drawing in Coloured Pencil workshop, covered two Sundays and ran from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
We had a small group of students, who were very interested in botanical art and learning more about the application of coloured pencils, I started the morning with a few drawing exercises and then spent the rest of the day completing a step-by-step floral project. The second Sunday, we built layer upon layer and burnished a mouth-watering apple (see below).
This was my apple in coloured pencil.
The apple (below) was completed by student, Jonathan Henderson.
This apple (below) was finished by student, Helen Francis.

On February 16 & 23, 2014 (at the same location), I will be running a botanical drawing and painting in watercolour workshop. It will be winter outside but we will be celebrating spring blooms in the warmth of a glorious heritage building. On March 22 & 29, please come out for the Architectural Drawing in Pen & Ink workshop.
From one wordpress blogger to another – I am amazed at the detail you can achieve with pencil, I could eat that apple. I bet your art classes are really good. I’ve just had ‘one to one’ lessons with a guy called Mike Bowman (Check out his website)
He has has been showing me his oil techniques. I hope I might motivate myself to get into sometime but I keep starting paintings then loose track with something else.
Best wishes Michael or is it Michael Angelo !!
